The Urban Umbrella - Young-Hwan Choi and Agencie Group - US

Designed by Young-Hwan Choi and New York-based Agencie Group, the Urban Umbrella is a replacement for the ugly wood and steel scaffolding which cover pavements around construction areas. The design recently won the UrbanSHED competition, which was sponsored by the New York City Department of Buildings, and will have it’s first trial this December at 100 Broadway in Manhattan. City officials hope that the new design will eventually replace all the 6,000 sidewalk sheds which are currently dotted around the city.
